HISTORY

Ann Smith Monks (1900-1970) was trained as a pianist and lived in Lincoln for 30 years with her husband John Peabody Monks. In 1941 Harvard-trained architect G. Holmes Perkins (1904-2004) built her the concert room of her dreams in a modern International-style house in a beautiful setting on top of Lincoln Hill.  She lovingly gave concerts in her living room for friends, family and guests and also had professionals perform as well. Musical salons were a regular part of the Monks’ lives.

FoMA/Lincoln is pleased to carry on that musical tradition with a special spring piano salon in the Monks’ large light-filled living room.

DETAILS

A salon is an informal gathering of friends and strangers in someone's living room to eat, drink, talk and listen - in this case to classical piano music.

Four Lincoln pianists (Ken Hurd, Finn Larsen, David Knoerr and J.B Stevens) will perform pieces by Mozart and Beethoven, appropriate for a convivial spring afternoon.

Katherine Mierzwa will give a presentation on the Monks House and Lincoln’s musical history.

There will be a reception with seasonal refreshments. Tours of the expansive house and modern landscape will be given.

Colorful spring attire is encouraged and prizes will be given for the best men’s and women’s spring outfits.  Dress up and celebrate spring!

PLEAE NOTE: The homeowners request that all attendees wear covid-safe masks indoors.  They also ask that guests not put on perfume, after-shave lotion or cologne that day.

Limited in-person seating.
